As you may already know, some of your customers may be exempt from certain provisions of health care reform based on whether they offer “grandfathered plans.” A grandfathered plan is individual or employer-sponsored coverage (fully insured or self-funded, including collectively bargained plans), in which an individual was enrolled on March 23,2010 when the health care reform bill was signed. To help you and your customers understand the provisions effective October 1, we have put together some information to clarify grandfathering. Please use the attached chart and frequently asked questions guide to understand the definition of grandfathering, who it applies to, and what it means for your customers. More information on how IBC will implement health care reform provisions will be forthcoming. If you have any questions on grandfathering, please contact your Independence Blue Cross account executive. Grandfathering Provisions Chart
